Books – My fascination.. My Obsession..

I am an ardent reader. I love reading books. When am happy, when am not so happy. They have been with me through every phase of my life. Throughout 24 years, I have tried to read all genres of books. Romance, Action, Thriller, Scientific fiction, Medical fiction, Classics, Non Fiction etc. I enjoy a mixed pot of genres, but, my favorites are Action and Thrillers. When am reading a book, I get so consumed in it that I am completely lost in it and can’t stop till I finish it. There have been nights when I sit hell bent to finish a particular book not even bothering to sleep.

My 1st book ever was “Sun Princess” in 2nd Std. I was so excited when I got this book as a gift from my Dad on my Birthday, that I did not even change in the night and sat with it, reading aloud the words and trying to string the story together. It was an Irish Fable and the story was absolutely fantastic to me. I remember it even now. :)

Even before that, in my Kindergarten, my teacher used to give us story books on a Friday and used to ask our Moms to narrate the stories to us. And then we had to present the story on Monday in front of the class. I still remember how excited I used to be on every Friday. Mom and I used to finish the story in the lunch time itself.

Then, after Sun Princess, I gained confidence and started reading on my own. I slowly started with Panchatantra, Tinkle, Chandamama etc. Then as I grew up, Famous Five, Secret Seven and other Enid Blytons started making place on my desk.

Nancy driving her Blue Mustang with her best friends Bess and George…Aaaah…Nostalgia. Many of us have grown up on Nancy Drew stories. The twisted cases, her crushes, her friends, they all created a parallel world for my young brains. Then Sidney Sheldons, the John Grishams were all waiting for me to read them. I read all the Harry Potters and started reading other fantasy books like Eragon, The Golden Compass etc.

Since then I have tried a lot of books. Some of them which really touched my heart are: Godan, Memoirs of a Geisha, Abduction and a lot more. Every book, when well written, creates an entirely different world. I can live as one of the characters. I can roam on the streets of London when am lounging on my couch. I can fight with the dragons when am actually travelling in a bus. There is so much to learn and so much more to experience.

Currently I am reading “Dead like you” by Peter James about a Psychotic serial rapist and a killer who is obsessed with branded and high heeled shoes. It’s very scary because, the victim in this story is just another girl. It could be me, you anyone. A girl who thinks all bad things happen to others. It’s quite a big book and I want to finish it as soon as possible.

So, if you have read a book that you think I should read, do not forget to recommend it to me :)
